About Your Doula

I am fortunate to be able to do what I love twice in my lifetime. I am a seasoned registered nurse with over 35 years of experience. I'm blessed with three children and seven grandchildren. My first love in nursing was labor/delivery/postpartum and women's specialties.

My labor and delivery experiences were in California where I worked with a very diverse group of women/couples/families in both county and private hospitals. Working with expectant families was a special time for all of us. As a nurse, there are a lot of important tasks that need to be completed for mom and baby during and right after delivery. My favorite part of the delivery process was providing support for the women in labor and the immediate recovery period after birth.

Since moving back to Denver, I have completed my DONA training as a birth doula and am looking forward to using my skills to provide in-person support in the form of comfort measures, relaxation techniques and breathing patterns to enhance the birthing experience for families.

One of my strengths is knowing the difference between the scope of a nurse and that of a birth doula. I will not be focused on the medical side of the process now and will enjoy the interaction and hands-on support for laboring moms and their partners to promote the labor process.

Now, I have the opportunity to do what fills my heart as a doula. It would be an honor to be part of your birthing journey.

Client Testimonials

"Having Leslie as our doula for our hospital birth was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy. From our first meeting, she was warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. She took the time to listen to our hopes and concerns, and made sure we felt confident and prepared going into labor."

"When the big day arrived a week and a half early, Leslie met us at the hospital when we asked her to come and helped create a calm, focused environment. She worked seamlessly alongside the nurses, respecting their roles while advocating gently for our birth preferences."

"Thanks to Leslie I felt strong, informed, and cared for throughout the entire experience. She brought calm, reassurance, and a sense of control to a setting that can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially for first time parents."

"Leslie helped me through everything and with everything. I was able to handle a lot more pain with her physical help through the contractions. Leslie was a great reminder to breathe and helped keep me in the moment. I literally could not have done it without her."

"My partner was able to sleep which allowed him to help the remaining days in the hospital and I was able to get more rest. Leslie allowed us to be a little safer for our newborn post birth as well as during with her emotional and physical help."

"We are so grateful to have had Leslie as part of our birth journey. From the very beginning, she was a steady and supportive presence through email and text, always checking in and providing resources as we prepared to welcome our daughter into the world."

"Our labor and delivery happened quite suddenly, and Leslie was there right away to help us through the experience—even after having attended another birth that same evening. She arrived focused, grounded, and full of care, offering unwavering support from the moment she walked in."

"We truly can't imagine our birth experience without her, and we feel incredibly lucky to have had her by our side. We wholeheartedly recommend Leslie to any family preparing to welcome a new life into the world."

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about doula services and support

  • What is a doula and how can they help me?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to birthing people before, during, and after childbirth. Unlike medical staff, doulas focus solely on your comfort and emotional well-being, offering comfort measures, breathing techniques, position suggestions, and advocacy for your birth preferences.

  • Does having a doula replace my partner's role?

No, a doula complements your partner's support. I work with your partner to ensure they feel confident and involved. Many partners appreciate having an experienced guide to help them support you effectively, and it allows them to focus on emotional connection rather than remembering all the comfort techniques.

  • Is doula support covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans now cover doula services! I'm approved for Medicaid and Kaiser Permanente coverage. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your specific coverage. I'm happy to provide documentation needed for reimbursement for other insurance plans.

  • When should I hire a doula?

The earlier the better! Many families hire their doula during the second trimester, which allows time for prenatal visits and relationship building. However, it's never too late—I've supported families who reached out just weeks before their due date. The important thing is making the connection when you're ready.

  • What happens during prenatal visits?

Prenatal visits are a chance for us to get to know each other and prepare for your birth. We'll discuss your birth preferences, practice comfort techniques and breathing patterns, address any concerns, and ensure you feel confident and supported. These visits typically last 1-2 hours and take place in your home.

  • Will you stay with me for my entire labor?

With the Full Support package, I provide unlimited labor support from when you need me until after your baby is born. With other packages, I provide support for a specified number of hours. However, I never watch the clock during your labor—my focus is on supporting you through this important experience.

  • Can you help with both hospital and home births?

Yes! I provide doula support for births in hospitals, birth centers, and home settings. My extensive nursing background means I'm comfortable in medical settings and work seamlessly with medical staff, while my doula training allows me to focus purely on your comfort and emotional support.

  • What if I need a C-section?

I fully support you regardless of how your baby arrives. In the case of a cesarean birth, I can provide emotional support, help you understand what's happening, advocate for your preferences when possible, and support you and your partner through the experience. My nursing background is particularly valuable in these situations.
